God is with us: 12 January 2014

But immediately He talked with them and said to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. — Mark 6: 50–51

We do not need to despair: the Lord is with us! Even in the new year we have the certainty that the Lord wants to be with us. “With us”—this applies to His church and to each individual within it. Just like the disciples in the boat, we too strive toward a goal which the Lord has chosen for us.  While the goal at the time was Bethsaida, the hometown of the disciples, our goal is the place of the glory of the Lord (John 17: 24).

Core Points

We will not be spared from having to deal with adversity here and there as we make our way to the goal of our faith, but the Lord is with us.

Let us:

  • Feel the nearness of God even in times of sadness and despondency.
  • Pay heed to the promise of the Lord in all circumstances.
  • See to it that the Lord can enter into our lives.
