Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labour of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. — Psalm 128: 1–2
When we fear the Lord and walk in His ways, we will be happy in the Lord.
Our Bible text begins with the word “blessed” and goes on to describe the prerequisites that must be fulfilled in order to prosper in the Lord. These include fearing God and walking in His ways. Wellbeing or prosperity—in other words, a life in peace in which one is successful in managing one’s natural affairs—is the goal of all people. Nevertheless, our circumstances of life do not lie entirely in our own hands. We need only think of situations of illness, poverty, hunger, or suffering.
We will attain happiness and prosperity in the Lord when we
- fear God,
- walk in His ways, and
- help along in His work.
