Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. — Matthew 5: 6
There is only one who can satisfy the hunger for righteousness: Jesus Christ, the righteous Lord. Righteousness—as an ethical norm—is highly valued in our time. All around the world people denounce situations which they feel are disadvantageous or unfair. At the same time, however, there are contradictory notions about how such righteousness can be achieved. Often it also becomes clear that the endeavour to establish righteousness in one area leads to new injustices in other areas.
- The hunger and thirst for righteousness will only be perfectly satisfied in the future kingdom of God.
- This kingdom has already begun to dawn in the Son of God.
- In the present kingdom of God, sinners are justified through the merit of Christ.
