The promise of eternal joy: 30 March 2014

Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the Devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time. — Revelation 12: 12

Message

This earth will be the battleground of the Evil One in the end-time. Nevertheless, the Lord will gain the victory.

The suffering and death of Jesus is to occupy our hearts increasingly over the Passiontide, which holds unique and special significance for us, owing to His glorious resurrection. Suffering and persevering are part of being a Christian, but in the end, so are resurrection and transformation to a new life at the return of Christ (Romans 8: 17).

In prophetic manner, our Bible text describes the events associated with the return of the Lord as the bridegroom, which we await with such longing. With the return of Christ, the great tribulation will begin on earth. Daniel 12: 1 speaks about a time of trouble. We understand Michael, the great prince referenced in this chapter, to be Jesus Christ.

During this time of the great tribulation Satan will be permanently cast out of heaven, because it is there that the marriage of the Lamb will take place (Revelation 12: 7–10).

Core Points

Suffering and perseverance are part of being a Christian. The great wrath of the Devil can already be felt today

  • in the persecution of Christians,
  • in the retreat of the Christian faith,
  • in the dominance of the earthly.

The Evil One will only be able to develop his power over a short period of time and then his influence will come to an end.
